Sunday Afternoon Concert Series
Advent Concert December 16th at 3:00.
Johann Sebastian Bach’s
Christmas Oratorio
The Sunday Afternoon Concert Series continues with a magnificent
performance of Bach’s Christmas Oratorio on December 16th at 3:00.
Conducted by Simona Frenkel, it includes an orchestra of 11 professional
musicians, three professional soloists, actors, and Choir, soloists, and
extended choir family.
Professional soloists for the concert include Sara Sturdivant, Alto,
David Parper, Tenor, and Raymond Ayers, Bass. (For more about Mr. Ayers
illustrious career, go to his website at www.raymondayers.com ).
Composed in 1733-34 when Bach was 50, the Oratorio is a festive blend of
arias, duets, and choruses telling the Christmas story and set in six
parts, each one for a particular Christmas day, -- starting with Part I
on Christmas Day and ending with Part VI on Epiphany. The Oratorio is a
popular and uplifting Christmas work of Bach’s and features a matchless
example of his compositional invention as he uses each voice and
instrument in an seemingly endless series of combinations. Our concert
will feature selections from the entire work, and the Christmas story
will be narrated by actors, William Herman (as Bach) and Liam McAuliffe
as one of his sons. A reception will follow the performance in
Fellowship Hall.
Please join us for this exceptional concert!
